Transition Policy Advice 1.0

‘World leader in innovations without laboratory animals by 2025.’ Former State Secretary for Economic Affairs Martijn van Dam’s ambition led in 2016 to the Netherlands National Committee for the protection of animals used for scientific purposes (NCad) being asked to draw up a phase-out schedule for animal experiments. This led to the NCad Policy Advice ‘Transition to non-animal research: on opportunities for the phasing out of animal procedures and the stimulation of innovation without laboratory animals'.

Transition Policy Advice 1.0 led to the establishment of a partner programme in 2018 Transition Programme for Innovation without the use of animals (TPI). Various target images for non-animal research have since been established. These can be found on the target images page. A so-called whiteboard animation has been made of the Policy Advice, which visualises the opinion and the possibilities as stated in the advice.
