This policy advice report presents an analysis of developments in the Dutch animal research field over the period 2015-2024. The NCad conducted this analysis at the request of the Minister of Food Security Fisheries and Horticulture.
The analysis is based on quantitative registration data, supplemented by insights from targeted interviews with research institutions and a comprehensive survey amongst professionals working in the Dutch animal research field. This report provides insight into the animal procedures carried out in the Netherlands, the purposes for which they are conducted, the trends visible in the number of procedures performed for these purposes, and important factors driving these trends. Additionally, the report includes a projection of these findings for the near future and identifies priority areas for reducing the number of animal procedures in the Netherlands.
